During DW2013, Awards Victoria was lucky enough to be able to visit Ashwood School not once, but twice! In the first of two contributions from Ashwood School, Amanda Chew gives us the inside scoop on all the activities from right in the thick of it.

You can also check out two awesome DW2013 poems created by students at Ashwood:

The students in the Secondary Department at Ashwood School had the privilege of celebrating Dukes Week last week with the staff from Awards Victoria including the CEO, Mr Roger McKinnon. This special week went from the 5th till the 12th of August 2013.

Ashwood School has been enrolled with this Awards Program for many years. Mrs Deb Tucker, who is the Ashwood School Awards Coordinator, helped organised this special week.

Fiona Campbell and Guy McLeod visited our school to film our special events on Wednesday and Thursday.

Our School got to celebrate on the 7th of August by having a delightful and amazing sausage sizzle, cooked by the boys who are doing their Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award: Daniel Edwards, Aidan Bebee, Sam Spanos and Alex Indrans. They cooked 227 sausages!

The sausage sizzle was followed by a special Skills Showcase in the afternoon where each elective group showed their work and what they have been working on for the skills section of their award. We saw PowerPoints, photo stories, videos, musical items, displays, action with bikes and remote control cars and much more.

It was an exciting morning the next day at Ashwood School because all the Secondary Students got to have a special and scrumptious Morning Tea that Awards Victoria staff supplied, with lots of cakes, scones, fruit and drinks. Before the special morning tea the CEO of Awards Victoria presented to Mr Macbeth, our assistant principal, a plaque to say thank you to Ashwood School Staff and Students for all their hard work and enthusiasm.

It was a week to remember at our school. Thank you again to everyone for their hard work and dedication in the Awards Victoria Program!!
