The Award’s positive impacts
Research and evidence have shown that the Award has a particularly positive impact on youth development in the following nine areas:
1. Educational attainment
Improving young people’s school attendance, achievement levels and commitment to education
2. Employability and sustainable livelihoods
Improving young people’s employment levels and ability to support themselves financially
3. Social inclusion
Improving community integration, acceptance of individual differences, and access to development opportunities for all young people
4. Health and well-being
Increasing young people’s physical fitness and sense of emotional and mental well-being
5. Participation in civic life
Increasing young people’s involvement in volunteering and community activities
6. The environment
Increasing young people’s awareness of environmental issues and involvement in sustainability initiatives
7. Gender equality and the empowerment of women
Bridging the gender gap and empowering marginalised young women, building their self-worth and enabling them to demonstrate their potential
8. Conflict resolution, peace-building and reduced violence
Reducing inter-and intra-group conflict and violence, and building dialogue and co-operation within communities
9. Reduced reoffending (recidivism) rates
Helping reduce youth crime and re-offending rates
